ACNE, ACNE SCAR & PIGMENTATION … A common problem

Acne is a skin condition characterized by red pimples on the skin, especially on the face, due to inflamed or infected sebaceous glands and prevalent chiefly among adolescents. Acne is a multi factorial disease. It affects genetically predisposed persons having androgen excess or increased affinity of androgen to receptors. Acne is not dangerous but treatment of acne is necessary because in long run they produce pigmented spots and scars which may be permanent.

How common is acne?

Dermatologists (skin specialists) say that approximately three-quarters of 11 to 30 year-olds will get acne at some time. Acne can affect people of all races and all ages. It most commonly affects adolescents and young adults, although there are people in their fifties who still get acne. Although acne affects both men and women, young men suffer from acne for longer – probably because testosterone, which is present in higher quantities in young men.

What causes acne?

Nobody is completely sure what causes acne. Experts believe the primary cause is a rise in androgen levels – androgen is a type of hormone. Androgen levels rise when a human becomes an adolescent. Rising androgen levels make the oil glands under your skin grow; the enlarged gland produces more oil. Excessive sebum can break down cellular walls in your pores, causing bacteria to grow.

Some studies indicate that susceptibility to acne could also be genetic. Some medications which contain androgen and lithium may cause acne. Greasy cosmetics may cause acne in some susceptible people. Hormone changes during pregnancy may cause acne to either develop for the first time, or to recur.

What are Acne Scars?

Acne scars are the result of inflammation within the dermis brought on by acne. The scar is created by the wound trying to heal itself resulting in too much collagen in one spot. Physical acne scars are often referred to as “ice pick” scars. This is because the scars tend to cause an indentation in the skin’s surface.

Ice pick scars: These are the most common and a classic sign of acne scarring with deep pits in the skin.

Box car scars: Angular scars that usually occur on the temple and cheeks, and can be either rolling scars that give the skin a wave-like appearance or Hypertrophic scars which are thickened.

What is Pigmentation?

The Pigmentation (melanin) of your skin is produced by special pigment cells called Melanocytes. Each person has the same number of these Melanocytes in our skin, approximately 60,000 per square inch.

Melanin is produced as small, insoluble granules. Where there are no melanin granules, the skin is white, whereas the more melanin granules, the darker the skin. The variations of particular skin colour – tan, brown, black – depend upon the concentration of these granules in the epidermis.

Most skin pigmentation disorders occur because the body produces either too much or too little melanin. The most common cause of excessive skin pigmentation is an increased e pills, sun exposure or combinations of these factors.

Due to ageing process and various environmental factors our skin undergoes various changes leading to dull, rehydrated and wrinkled skin. Our advanced single or combination of treatment helps to correct the damages on the skin , stimulates production of collagen and elastin giving you rejuvenated, younger looking skin.

Facial Rejuvenation

Overview

Our appearance can greatly impact on how we feel about ourselves and how others react to us. Commonly, most of the changes we attribute to ageing are in fact caused by sun damage. Sun damage causes harm to the vital collagen fibers of the skin, resulting in a loss in skin support and changes in the skins texture and tone. Sun exposure can also contribute to open / broken blood vessels to the face resulting in an increased red complexion or fine lines, wrinkles and enlarged pores.
